Contributing to the true threat on our Democracy is the need and primary goal for our elected officials to raise money for their next election. So what has contributed to this political paradigm that subordinates the will of the people to campaign finance? The constant need for campaign funds discourages potential leaders from entering politics. So, running for office has become a millionaire's game, drastically limiting the pool of eligible candidates. Representatives and Senators spend at least 30 hours a week “dialing for dollars” at purpose-built call centers – not doing their jobs. Over half of our representatives in Congress are millionaires.
