You know, I'm thinking back fifty eight years ago and I think, oh my gosh, I can't believe this, and it reminds me, Yes, I am that old. I was a senior in high school when we were dealing with the assassination of you know, Bobby Kennedy, and of course you know Martin Luther King junior, and you know, in his impact and his leg see.

1:02 You know, it's amazing in light of the culture that we're dealing with that MLK was, I guess because he was. He was so honest, not saying he was a perfect man. We're all humanoids and we're all flawed in our own way. But the message that he carried was of legacy quality, and this is why it continues to this day because it is uh, you know, it's best in truth. You know. I like the one line that he talked about when he said darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Right. I think when we honor people in general, and we're honoring the positive thing that person did. And this has become almost a cliche, but I mean, we don't honor Thomas Jefferson because he had a mistress who happened to be a slave. We don't honor, you know, Abe Lincoln because he fought a big war, although obviously he won the Civil War. We honor those people because they did things that were unique, magnificent. I mean Jefferson, you know, completed the Louisiana purchase. He added at the time half of the United States. Abe Lincoln kept the country together. So, I mean a lot of people have mistresses, not many people to create nations. It's like the I mean it's almost a joke. But Christopher Columbus got lost. Yeah, well he got lost and he found the United States. I mean he got lost and he went to Columbus instead of Cleveland.

2:27 You know, so Martin Luther Similarly, Martin Luther King quite likely. Averted a race war in the United States. I mean, you can like or dislike this as a Republican, but he's responsible for the modern Civil Rights Act. Martin Luther King was the leader of the American civil rights movement, which in terms of the first wave basic desegregation I think we all think was good. I mean, he's the guy commemorated with Martin Luther King Day, So I mean, he really is one of those He's one of those guys in wax. He's one of the people that has a statue, and I think he generally speaking deserves it. So yeah, that's that's why we remember him with as a legacy figure, like you said, as a figure who keeps on down through the ages, like Jefferson. He's someone whose books and speeches you read.

3:12 Yeah, I'm not sure you know your statementunless I misunderstood that Republicans in principle would disagree with Martin Luther King Day or Martin Luther King as a person and what he promoted, because it would seem that it was the Democratic Party that was in conflict more with the values of Martin Luther King and in integration. I mean, look at what happened in the South in Alabama, right, I mean, and its shades and memories of what we're dealing with here in Minneapolis. Well, no, there are two things there. I think that a lot of modern Republicans would have some questions about what ended up happening with the Civil Rights Act in the nineteen sixty five Immigration Act. I sometimes do myself. The CRA is one of those bills that came into conflict with another kind of foundational American value, which is the right of free association. I would come down on the side of the Civil Rights Act. I don't see anything wrong with saying that at the baseline level, you can't if you're hiring executives, you can't discriminate against women, Blacks, Irish and Hispanics so on. But I mean that is a debate that people have in general. I don't think that Republicans are or racist, for example, that Democrats certainly not if you define racism broadly. So I mean, if you're asking someone if they're a bigot, you can't just say, well do you dislike black people? You would also have to ask, well do you dislike white people. Do you dislike I mean, do you dislike immigration from Europe and Latin America? I mean like then, and if you ask

4:42 those questions, I mean you'll find that fakind American Democratic Party voters or white Liberals or something like that aren't the most tolerant people in the world necessarily. So I think that's the point there. I mean, for I think any viewers of you or me would know this. But your other pointer correction there is good. I mean, the Democratic Party, historically, no, was not better on race than the Republican Party. The Republican Party in fact, was founded to pose slavery in the United States. I mean, that's the root basis of the GOP. The Democratic Party was sort of the armed wing of the pro slavery movement in the USA for a long time.

5:25 So I mean in. The Dixie, the whole Dixie movement, the Dixiecrats and so on. Dixie Krat is a combination of Dixie and Democrats. All those boys were Southern Democratic senators and Republicans. Anyway, a long conversation here. Some people argue the two parties switched on race in the nineteen sixties. In my book, Lies my liberal teacher told me, I actually argue that that's not really true. Almost every sitting Southern representative who opposed the CRA, who voted against the Civil Rights Act stayed on as a Democrat. I mean Bobby Bird, Robert Bird was clan right, and he was the Democratic Senator from West Virginia well into the nineties. So gradually did those guys just kind of died and they were replaced by younger African American in a lot of cases or kind of you I fear remember John Edwards, kind of guys like that, like trial lawyers from the New South, and that's when you started seeing that shift in the South.

6:24 But yeah, it's an interesting racial picture down there. Yeah, in my observation of the Civil Rights Act is that I sought more as a political ploy as opposed to really, you know, liberating you know blacks. I mean, it was Lyndon Johnson who was quoted as saying, in convincing the Southern Democrats that you referred to to go along with the CRA because it would ensure the black voters as a voting block for Democrats, he said for one hundred years. And he didn't say blacks. He used the N word, because that's the way he talked, and it was very demeaning. So I looked at it as more of a political operation as opposed to something that really connected with the spirit of the Constitution that all men are created equal, made in the image of God.

7:17 Well, that's a famous quote from Lyndon Bains Johnson. Lyndon Johnson, it's fascinating guy. First of all, I think he'd be an interesting guy to have a beer with. Like a lot of those politicians from back then, I mean, going from. Kennedy to Reagan. I mean, they're all real American whether you like them or not. But yeah, Lyndon Johnson in his kind of draw setting, I'll have them mowings, let's say, voting Democrat for one hundred years. When he signed the CRA, you. Know, the Civil Rights Act. The basic point of the Civil Rights Act is very hard to oppose because, I mean, without civil rights law, there aren't there aren't protections. Both of us have been bosses, like there aren't protections in employment law in a capital country automatically. You know, when the first time I was working on a sales floor, the boss Al Carlson, who's just a fascinating character. Real Chicago guy basically said, you know, you guys is a trading floor. You guys have your phone, you got your folder of leads. We can fire you for any reason and no reason at all. You know, your base salary is like six hundred dollars a month in a can of soup. You know's all.

8:22 You got a can of soup. I didn't get a can of souper. But it's this whole speech, like, you know, if I think you're an idiot, I can let you go. You know, leads as sales numbers are written on the board every day. But basically, you can fire someone for being an idiot. You can fight, but you can't fire someone for being like a black idiot. And the Civil Rights Act kind of entrenched that into lall, like you can't fire someone for being female, black, white, Irish, and before that you could. I think that's basically good. An interesting point also is that without the Civil Rights Act, unless you really have a good constitutional turn on your team, there's no protection from firing for being white. I think the dissident right boys sometimes kind of forget this, Like the assumption is, well, if we got rid of civil rights law, then all of this affirmative action stuff that would go away and we might have more of an advantage in the job market.

I'm not sure modern corporations Target and Harley and so on would have any preference, not that they should for Caucasian American born Americans if they decided to implement quote unquote woke programs at scale again with no CRA, there's no way to oppose that because the law is gone. So anyway, the cool thing about the CRA, but yeah, there's definitely some sketchy politicking around it, and i'm a lot of lying around it and immigration law as well. 14:55 And here we are, what are we? Fifty fifty eight years? Fifty eight years since the assassination of Martin Luther King, his legacy that has continued, all this that has happened, and now we've come to a point where saying, hey, look at we need to look at merit. You know, we went through DEI and all this, and you know, can you produce just like when you were on the sales floor, you know, okay, six hundred bucks the can of soup, But can you produce? You know, and look at look at what happened with all these football coaches. How many of this past year, like over a dozen football coaches are gone? And that's merit based. You know, it's like, hey, you didn't bring the Super Bowl ring, you're out of here.

15:39 Coaching is a wild job. I mean you also have to add on top of that, like the two or three of them that were caught in affairs. I mean it's just to you definitely when you get into one of those those coaching positions and the top collegiate conferences or the pros. I mean, you have to explain to to your wife and friends like they're going to be putting house for sale signs on the lawn, like this is not the most stable job that we that we have here. Yeah, I mean, pure meritocracy I think is good. I mean, I told you I actually started a business, Unified Solutions America, which is an anti DEI consulting company. But one of the things that was interesting for me is that when we did our first meeting, it was like everyone that we have as a consultant, all the advisors. It was incredibly diverse, and we actually kind of backpatted each other for about thirty seconds because we were we had there had been no diversity outreach at all. We just picked the people we thought were the best, and it turned out to be like Ian row Melchin, Frank McCormick from Chicago.

16:43 I mean, it was just all all. Across the rivera. I mean, it was just it was all of the people that you would expect but just there, there hadn't been any goal of eight percent here. We need this many Filipinos. And I think that in the fields that are the most competitive, like two things. One, you are going to see a whole range of people, like in the NFL you see African American, Southern White, Samoans. So on. But you're also not going to see proportional representation ever, like the NFL last year I think was forty eight percent black, Like it's very disproportionately African American. I don't think that means anything at all. I think that's what you're going to find if you just let people compete.

17:24 But there are a lot of people that have a real problem with that. Football coaching, which again is seventy five percent white guys, a bunch of black guys and Hispanic guys. That's one of those super meritocratic fields. I think it's a good I mean, those guys go and give advice to much of the rest of business. I think it's a good exemplar field for other fields. There are a lot of people that have a real problem with that. And so there are a lot of fields that try to shield people from those kind of competitive pressures that you get in something like coaching, and you know, admittedly, if you're you're talking about teachers or preaching or something, maybe you don't want kind of the same turnover that you have among football coaches, where the bottom twenty percent are gone every year. But there are lessons you can take from the pitch or from the battlefield that you can move into most sectors that will improve most of those sectors. What did the even the basic like the after game journal, which almost all NFL coaches keep, What did the best people do every day? Can you can you quantify that using a program like qualrusts? What did the less successful people do?

18:33 I think that the. Most out on the edge, most competitive kind of situations do have a lot to teach everyone else. Yeah, I mean that's a famous old joke. I mean, you're a college ball coach, like you're you're not going to be where you are for very long. Yeah, right, yes, exactly. Make sure whatever furniture your wife buys is light and easy to move. Yeah, make sure not school colors too, Like you're not going to be You don't want to want to take that aubur and stuff to Michigan's. You know, it just it just went past. I wanted to address what happened over the weekend in Minnesota with the rush on the on the churches. Of course, this was a violation of Face Act. Face Act, which was instituted during the Clinton years, when the Democrats held all three branches of government, said hey, we've got to in the act. We've got to protect planned parenthood and these abortion clinics. You know, these conservatives going in there, and you know, not that they were bum rushing. I didn't see any bum rushing of planned parenthood facilities. I saw them outside the gate spraying, but I didn't see them, you know, interrupting people. But they felt like they needed to codify this, and the Republicans said, okay, well while we're doing that, let's make sure that we include churches in that Democrats bought. They objected, but it eventually went through and so churches are protected. So now here it is they violate their own law.

20:00 I mean, if I wanted to take a political punshot, I mean I would point out that when the Democrats were thinking of whatever the language is, like a holy sensitive place, they picked an abortion clinic. And when the GOP came back and thought of a holy sensitive place to add to the bill. They picked a church, you know, I mean, that's a pretty good line for any politicians I want to speak on this, But yeah, I mean this is a pretty obvious violation of the law. I mean, you do say, and whatever you might think about abortion facilities, you know, there are places like the doctor's office, much less than the house of God, where you don't want a picketing crowd. The term we use for this in the law is TPM time place and manner restrictions. You actually can't take a mob with wullhorns and fighting sticks and so on and bring that into every possible situation.

20:50 That's one of the arguments that January sixth was an insurrection, by the way, Like if you actually look at the fighting that occurred, that was very situational, that was one side of the Capitol. But people were saying, you can't take this crowd with the people still have the weapons over their backs. People are shouting, they're chanting, you can't take them and like walk them into Nancy Pelosi's office. And the Republicans have made this same argument, I think pretty convincingly about mobs on the left that have after that gone into the Supreme Court. I think it was the Idaho State Capitol. This by always happened like twelve times, it has just gotten a lot less covered. So anyway, I mean, if you're going to enforce that law, I think, yeah, going into the nave of a church during the worship would certainly qualify. One of the things that I think is kind of funny about this is that Trump invoking, well his people invoking both the Face Act and the KKK Act indicted I think Don Lemon and the person under him on Martin.

21:43 Luther King Day. You've got a bill of indictment under the Ku kuks Klan Act on Mlkday against some of these idiots who are mostly black crowd. You can't do that. I mean that, that's pretty much my opinion. They were like fighting the parishioners and the church. So yes, I would expect that if we're going to do this kind of January sixth or the state legislature COVID protests President where people have gotten some serious charges for being in these buildings and starting scuffles. Yeah, press charges. I don't know what will happen. I assume those would be state charges in that state. Well, but in this case, the face acts of federal federal offense. So and this is I think some of the things that are being worked out with the DOJ is what are federal offenses with some of these activists and what they're what they're doing here. But I think the pressure is really on the federal government to stifle this stuff, stifle the unlawful activity, because what happens in Minnesota or Minneapolis doesn't stay there. It starts to spread like a contagion. You have other people and other activists say hey, it's working there, let's just go. You know, surf's up, you know, California next, Seattle next. I mean, we already went through the Summer of Love and it cost us billions of dollars and you know, people are still recovering from it. Will because I believe the government was too slow to, you know, push back on this.

23:11 And I understand the sensitivity of the culture is such it doesn't like, you know, when law enforcement comes into play. But you have law enforcement for a reason, do you not. We got a little over a minute left, Go ahead, I'll let you sum it up. I think that's absolutely correct. You can't have people just openly breaking the law and I mean, if we got a short period of time. And that's also my view on illegal immigration in the first place. So like two opigions. One, most of these guys coming here from Mexico, Poland Jamaica. They're decent, hardworking people. I'd agree with that, But you also just can't We're a country with a welfare system. We're a country with a border. You can't have a bunch of young men that are journeyman carpenters or whatever just walking across the border, different inoculation disease regimes those countries, whatever, and just staying here and running restaurants. There's not a country in the world that allows that. So every so often you sweep through the country them out. I mean, so if there are people that are protesting that and fighting the police, you gotta arrest them. I mean a lot of this is really simple. We're complicating it. And yes, if the Feds say we're going to crack down, we're going to make examples out of ten people.

People that go to jail for doing this once, you get a lot less of the renee goods that really assume nothing's ever gonna happen if you fight the police. Right exactly well.
