Well, good morning, six minutes after the top of the hour. Right now, Bill Martinez here with the Assistant General Counselor at Landmark Legal, Win and Only Mike O'Neil. Mike, good morning, Good morning, could be with you, Bill, How are you well? Good to catch up on things. Let's take a look at these primaries that have taken place. California finally counted their numbers. I think a little bit early. I mean they were able to get in a week. I'll tell you. It's still spurious, Mike, And I mean I hate to do this, but you know, these blue states continue to put us into the realm of the conspiratorial and I resent that.

Yeah, I mean I absolutely, But when you have the governor of California before the process has even begun saying we have a break glass in case of emergency in tingency in places, and then then he stops there. But what, of course, is then implication if things don't go as we plan, and what is that break class emergency? I think we saw this playing out in real time. You have to understand and take a step back and understand that the systems that are in place in a state like California and other states too to a lesser degree, but California really is the model. The systems that have been put in place to ensure that the outcome of elections can be manipulated in such a way as that as the powers that be achieve their desired outcomes. And let me explain it and break it down a little bit how it goes. First of all, you start with removing any and all reasonable protections on the voting system.

1:39 That means no real signature verifications, vote by mail, universal vote by mail, no effort to clean voter roles, no serious effort to clean voter roles. And that means ensuring that ineligible individuals, people who died or moved out of the state, are their names are removed from the voter roles. And haven't even voted through a voting cycles. In some cases, ensuring that a mail ballot is mailed to every single name on those voter rolls, no matter whether that person has indicated they want a mail ballot or not. They get it. They get it. In their mail. No efforts systemic administrative procedures in place to to discourage DMV workers from preventing non citizens from registering to vote. So if you're not a citizen, and you're you're not a citizen, and you go to get a driver's license, okay, then with that are on opportunities to register to vote. And if you indicate that you're not a citizen, and you indicate that you still want to register to vote, employees of the California DMV are not allowed to take any steps to prevent you from registering to vote. That's absurd. So if you're if you're at the DMV and you see that somebody is indicated they're not a citizen, and then they're taking the steps to vote, to register to vote, you say no, no, no, you're not a citizen, no voting.

2:55 No, that isn't that against them? Let me ask you, isn't that against the law? Now, the law in California is that you're not to inquire into it. They're not abetting it, they're not registering it. They're just it's passive. They're just not they're not supposed to say anything, So we don't say anything. So you mean, there's no catch all law that only citizens vote. There is, there's catch all laws that citizens should be registered to vote, and you're committing a crime, but there is nothing to prevent there's nothing, there's no administrative guidance to employees. In fact, they're they're discouraged. DMV employees are discouraged from stopping individuals from registering to vote, even if they are aware that they're not a citizen. And so once these bad votes pollute and contaminate the good votes, it's impossible to get them out of there, isn't.

3:40 It right, It's impossible. And so in ballot harvesting, that's another system. That's another feature in California is they allow there doesn't have to be any kind of privity between the voter and the person who's taking their mail ballot and collecting their mail ballot. In other words, privity meaning like your spouse or your close personal friend. That means NGO's descend on these vulnerablebulations. And we saw this in skin row in real time. Yeah, because they have they have all the addresses. By the way, ladies, just you understand, the DMV provides the addresses to all these NGOs of who received ballots, right, yeah. And you don't even need a real address, any kind of any kind of address written on a ballot is sufficient. There's no checking that's make sure there's about a valid address, and there's no checking to ensure that the person who casts the ballot is who they are. And then here's the problem is, so you've you've removed all these reasonable protections.

4:31 You've allowed ballot harvesting, you allow NGOs, you allow ballots to come in after election day, and so it allows these bad actors to manufacture votes. So if you're if you can fund NGOs, and we know that there's a lot of NGOs that are funded that receive millions of dollars, it doesn't take a lot of money in a narrow window of time, maybe a million dollars, which is a lot of money, but relatively speaking, a couple hundred thousand dollars. You establish a fly by night, like you know, build office in a strip mall, and you grab twenty five people off the street. You pay him twenty five dollars an hour to go out and get votes, and all it takes is, you know, if you have ten or fifteen people working for you for a couple of weeks and they go out and they collect you know, maybe fifty ballots a day and multiply that, do the numbers, and then you get you can you can manipulate a memorial race. It's not that it's complicated and it requires organization, but and it requires money. But we know that they have that. And then the features are the systems are in place in California that permit all of those things.

5:34 So that's what when Gavin Newsom says we have a break you know, break glass in emergency scenario, that's what he's referring to. He knows. So it's almost no matter how much ground swell of support is orchestrated for some of these candidates like Spencer Pratz for example, and no matter how much momentum they appear to have behind the scenes, you know what's happening. Now? Why is this? This is bad for so much many reasons. The first reason, and you you said this before, Bill, is that people lose faith in the their their their sanctity of the vote, in whether they can effectuate change via the ballot box. We've talked about this before, but when you think that the system is rigged and your vote doesn't matter, and people like Gavin Newsom say, we know what's going to happen before we had, we don't worry where we got this.

6:23 That means you you say, well, what's the point of even voting at this point? So how do you want to effectuate change? You go down dark paths, so people have people lose faith in this in this uh, in the in the sanctity of the ballot box. Now, vote by mail is terrible. I mean, vote by mail is bad, but ballot harvesting is really bad because again it removes the ability of somebody to vote in secret. You're a subject to undo influence and all that. So where are we going where? That's the terrible bad news. What this means is, and we've talked about this before, is if a state is failing in its duty to ensure the integrity of its electoral system, then how do you affect weight change through that? Well, there is a role for the federal government to play, and this is where we're come into the same of America Act. And it's imperative that Congress gets through the same America Act. Yet they still in the face of all of this is what's happening.

7:10 You still see senators not getting. It amazing, yeah, yeah. And then for Republicans in particular, which you know, it's the same crew basically, and they continue to impede something that eighty percent of the country is pretty much insisting on now. Right, voter identification, identification of removal of and of identification, removal of non citizens from the voter rules, and approve of citizenship when you register to vote. These are all important things. Imagine think of that that that would allow, that would present some floor level of security measures. Again, it doesn't solve the problem a lot of the problems, but at least it begins to move the ball into that realm of fairness. And there are some other good There are other couple of pieces of good news. Number One, the Supreme Court earlier this term, in the decision in the Boss case, held that candidates have stand affirmed what is known as candidates standing. So if you're a candidate, that's that's that suffers a loss. I mean, I don't know if Spencer Pratt would be in a position to do this, but I would certainly think about it if I were him. Is you can challenge the fairness of an electoral system, So it affirmed the notion of candidates standing, and it established that elections have to be fair, which is a fairly broad you know, punt intent is a broad standard here, so you can make an allegation that it's unfair some way. Also, the court is poised in the next week or so to maybe in the next couple of weeks, maybe maybe tomorrow, I don't know, in a decision in Watson versus RNC is to poise to say that ballots have mail, ballots have to be received by election day, and that states can't have laws that allow

8:40 ballots to be received post election day. So like Washington State or California, they can't have these ballots trickling in the days and weeks after an election. So if it's not in the if it's not in the possession of the election officials by the conclusion of election day, it's not accepted. That's that's some good news. But again, the real problem here is you need to have legislation like the Save America Act pass immediately. Exactly. Yeah, we got to go to quick break. We'll pick it up on the other side. And this is something that Nancy Pelosi had employed. In fact, if you remember back in before the twenty twenty election, she made the announcement that Joe Biden was going to win. There was no doubt about it in her mind. I mean, she was so confident.

13:59 So what did she know. That we didn't know that we know now, I mean the end result. And you know, so on a federal level, they had a break the glass scenario in option. The other break the glass option that they have in California, as you mentioned, because of its unit party. Foundation. Is that. I mean Steve Hilton going in and trying to manage a state that's infrastructure is that is so over the top and so unipartied that his hands are going to be fulled full in much the same way that Arnold Schwarzenegger.

14:39 Did you know Schwarzenegger when he went in he thought, hey, he's gonna shake it up and do it. And they said, hey, look at everything. Eighty five percent of the budget is already Man, it's done, it's cooked. The fork is in it. You can't touch it. So you only got about fifteen percent to play with. And oh yeah, by the way, they've already spent twenty they spent that in another twenty percent. So welcome to California. Right. Yeah, it's it's it's it's really tragic. And and the this is this is what's important to understand also is that it's not limited to California. This is the model, you know, as we say the left, the California is the laboratory for the left where they perfect their their their their tactics, their policies, their implementations, and export it throughout the rest of the country. And so you see a lot of these movements in other states. And so you know, Virginia, for example, is kind of going that way because once once you see the left comes into power, they inevitably move into a certain direction. They want to remove all of these things. Yeah, make no mistake, the goal of the left is removal of the requirement for citizenship to vote.

15:46 That's gone, universal mass amnesty, open borders, you know, unlimited funding of whatever, kakamami ngo, you want to get look at look at what's become now, what's coming into light now with the extent a way which the Biden administration was governing our country for four years? Is you allowed think about this? This FHA loan thing. Did you hear about this? This is where illegal immigrants can come to America or non citizens can obtain housing loans for houses at zero percent interests or one percent interest zero down one percent interests. Who programs that are not available to American citizens. America has just become an ATM for the world where anybody can come in and essentially just take advantage of our openness and our trustworthiness, on our honesty and graft off the American taxpayer. And again it's we've seen a play out. Let me one last thing about California before I move on, if you want to talk about you know, we get to this conspiratorial things. But a ballot edition of I Think in LA was authorized, which raised the sales tax in LA from like eight point five percent to ten percent. Have you ever in your life heard of a constituency of voters voluntarily raising their taxes via ya a ballot initiative absolutely, that's absurd.

17:06 Oh yeah, yeah. Oh I'm gonna vote for for Ramen or Nitha Ramen. Oh sure, right who okay? Oh and also down the road, I'm going to vote for to raise my taxes. Yeah, that's a plausibility way. So again we talk about fraud, and I never really use I mean, fraud is a good word to use, but fraud carries legal implications. I like to call like manufacturing, ballot manufacturing, voter manufacturing, because these are ballots that would never have been cast but for all of these systemic issues, and they now find their way into kind of the stream of commerce and allow and affect the outcome of an election. And again they know they have they have it down to a science where they know exactly how many votes are necessary and where those votes need to come in and where they need to come in from so exactly.

17:50 You know, I don't know if there's a fix to it. There's a fix to it Nationally Save America Act. And again then the other fix is too big to rag is you try to you try to have enough vote to overcome that spread, that delta of voter mouth seasons. It's hard to do in a mayoral election, but it's easier to do on a national level. We covered four well, the other fixes. The American people have got to wise up. For lack of a. Better word, I mean, Rush Limbaugh called it about, you know, you know, the low information voter, and we have begun very blase. Everything's participated in this, you know, to really dumb down America. And the thing is, you know, this idea of what they did in siloing everybody. You know, they divided the United States. We're no longer united. So everybody went into their own little clubs and their clicks and everything, and they siloed themselves and as a result, they rendered themselves stupid because they're relying on the same people for the same insight and understanding of what's going on.

18:54 And you know, some of us, you know, Mike, we look at what's going on in our government and we say, you know, we're talking about voting, but it's everything that has to do with the government. It's corrupt, it's manipulated, the consent of the govern all the violation of our constitution. I mean, read the. Constitute, Read the Declaration of Independence. And if that doesn't get you upset, because you read it and you can't help but think, well, America. Is not that well, no kidding, it's not that. But what do we got to do? Yeah? I think it's funny when you're talking about siloing, and it is. It is. If you want something entertaining, read the Associated Press of the Los Angeles Times coverage of the mayorial race in Los Angeles. Yeah, and you. Would think everything is, of course, wow, this is you know, the way they describe Spencer Pratt is embarrassing. Clearly there was no due diligence or no effort to understand what he was running for and why he was running for the position he was, why he was running for mayor, And it's just these this anodyne kind of statements about it as almost again. And you know who was the expert at this, who was perfect at this, who modeled it, Barack Obama.

This guy could come out and say the most radical, ridiculous things and make it sound like, of course, this is just something that's gonna happen, and it's just anodyne and perfect, and it's just you look at it, you'd be like, what what are you talking about? But for somebody who's just siloed in their own informational bubble, and oh, I only get my news through you know, the sixty Minutes or which we saw the nonsense which is running around, you know, that insanity. But or I get my news through the through the Los Angeles Times or the Associated Press, you get this version that is so skewed from the actual reality of the situation. You become completely inured to what's going on in our country. And unless you're, unless you're paying attention to it, you miss it.

And so again, if you were getting your news from watching the mainstream media news outlets, reading the Associated pressing reading the Los Angeles Times, and listening to Barack Obama or Gavin Newsom, you'd have a completely different viewpoint from the one that's in reality. What it is and what it's doing. It's people, Mike, that's the thing looks societally. What is happening right now. I mean, kids are shooting kids, stabbing kids, you know, the kind of violence that's happening on the streets of America. This is all part and parcel of the siloing effect of America. It's dumb this down. It's removed us from our moral compass, you know, and it's all about power and control, which you know, the globalists, they love this because this all plays into their hands.

21:29 You know, these people that want power and control. You think it's about the Republican or Democratic you know, you're silly, You have no idea. I mean, we're just we're just tools for them, because they're on a whole different agenda. You know, talk about the deep state and all these other lever pullers in the background that you don't see that remain secret because they like it that way, because that's the way they can exist, because as soon as you shine the light on them, like cockroaches, they're scattering. But it's been a long time coming that all stuff that has been hidden, Mike, has got to come to fruition and it's got to be exposed. And this is why they're so upset about Donald Trump, why they were so upset with Charlie Kirk, because just him asking questions caused people to, you know, exercise some critical thinking and just like you just said about Barack Omama doesn't make sense.

22:19 Yeah, the I think there there is some degree of chickens coming home to roost in this and that there's an exposure of the extent to which fraud has become just just part of the fabric of American society right now. And well, I mean, I mean economic fraud in the government right I'm talking about fraud in the Medicare, Medicaid, social Security, housing loans, employment H one B, VISA fraud, OPT fraud. It's just America. As I said, before, the world kind of got noticed and the door was left open under the Obama administration. Then really under the Biden administration, the door was left wide open. And we were talking about this before, you know, like you you know, with the analogy we were talking about. You You're sitting at your kitchen table and somebody comes in and the door's open and they can just ride your refrigerator and you're like, why do I have to spend one thousand dollars this month on groceries? Well, because your door was wide open, and your refrigerator wasn't locked and nobody and you didn't have a guard dog at the steps. So you allowed the world to come in and raid your house. And that's what we've done. We've let the We've allowed the world to come in and raid our homes. And metaphorically speaking, I guess and maybe literally speaking.

23:25 Well literally, yeah, exactly. So the question is pay attention to it. Understand that there are some good actors in our government that are trying to requisent this. I think of like a guy like Lee Zelden, who's the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, and the EPA was the the ATM for NGOs. I mean, any NGO could come up with some kaka mami environmental nonsense, put in a grant request and get a check from the APE, from the Environmental Protection Agency, from the federal government for however many millions you want. I mean, cec Abrams's case is case in point in this where she created some nonsensical uh NGO group that bought refrigerators that did something and received billions of dollars. So Stacy Abrams has a beautiful house, a beautiful car, more money than she can count on the backs of the American taxpayer.

24:12 That's a perfect example. But she's she's at not at least she's American, I mean essentive. He's an American and she's a citizen. Non citizens come in here. People come from India or from wherever country you want to talk about, or Somalia, and they come in here and Somali that's the fraud. But even still, when you're a citizen, what is what does that say about your integrity? You don't you're going to. Steal from your own people. I mean, that's but that's what's going on, sadly. But at least at least i'll stop you real quick. At least we can talk about it and we know it's happening and the light of you know, the transparency light of sunshine is shining on this now. Thanks largely thanks again the guy. Like, there's some good actors. Back to my original point, you got the vice president heading up a fraud task force, so there at least there's some you know, three years ago, we could have had this conversation and we'd say, well we didn't. You know, it's all done in the shadows. Now at least we see what's happening. And there are some efforts I appreciate, like when doctor Oz goes in front of some building in wherever whatever city says this is where they're saying that there's home, hospice care whatever.

29:16 Hey, John, how are you doing great? It's great to talk to again. Always going to be talking to you. I guess violent crime is dropping as more Americans are packing heat. Huh yeah, Well, I think this last year, twenty twenty five, will we will have seen the lowest murder rate ever recorded in US history. You know, they have murdered data the federal government has since nineteen hundred, so that's about one hundred and twenty six years, and the lowest previous murder rate we ever had was four point five murders per one hundred thousand people. But it looks like this last year it was probably it was probably down to below four per hundred thousand, and twenty twenty four was about five per hundred thousand, So you know, this was substantially below anything we had previously seen, and there are reasons for it that we can talk about. But one of the things that we have seen is that there's been a big increase in the rate that people are carrying concealed handguns. At the end of twenty twenty four, we also did a survey on people carrying. And one of the reasons why we've been doing the survey is that we for about fifteen years we've been looking at the number of concealed carry permits that have been issued.

30:47 The problem is is that over the last few years, in particular, we've had this huge increase in the number of constitutional carry states. Since twenty twenty one, over a third of the US population now is, in addition, living in constitutional carry states. We have twenty nine constitutional carry states all together. Now, explain to the audience what it means to be in a constitutional carry state. What does that mean? Yeah, I was going to do that. Thanks. Well, you have two types of states. You have those where you have to have a permit to carry, so called right to carry, shall issue type laws, and then you have these twenty nine states where it's no longer necessary to have a permit to carry. As long as you're able to legally own a gun, as long as you're able to legally pass a background check, then you're able to go and get it to carry your concealed handgun, and we just have a hard number on the number of permits. We don't know the number of people who are carrying who can legally carry.

32:00 Reason why we do the survey. And between the end of twenty twenty four and now, there's been over a five percent increase in the rate that people are carrying concealed handguns. Right now among general election voters, you find that about almost thirty percent of Americans who vote who are going to vote in the general election actually carry. And it's higher in the constitutional carry states. It's about thirty four percent in those states, and it's about twenty percent who are carrying in the other twenty one states.

32:42 What's motivating that number, John. Well, I think. You can go and look to see what's happening over the last few years just in terms of constitutional carry, and I think a lot of that had to do with COVID that when you had over half the states there stop issuing concealed carry permits when we had obviously there are a lot of concerns about crime and other things, and so states moved to move to constitutional carry because they said, look, you know, if the system breaks down and you're not able to go and issue permits to people.

33:26 They're stuck, you know, and so they moved to constitutional carry to give them an option. Now, there are other things that are going on. When you what determines whether a lot of people carry is the cost of being able to go and carry. You know, when you have to pay for a permit. You know, it could be eighty dollars, could be one hundred dollars, could be more or less, depending upon the state that you're in. That affects the number of people were caring. When you're talking about constitutional carry, there's no longer a fee that you have to go and pay to be able to go and do that. Also, you know, particularly for women, there might be something that just occurs suddenly. They may start being stalked or threatened. Under the old rules where you had to go and get a permit in all these stays, what would happen is is that it could take forty five days, sixty days, ninety days, maybe even a year in some places once you apply for the permit to be issued. Well, if a woman's being stocked or threatened, she may not have forty five days to wait to be able to start to carry.

34:38 She may need to do so right now. And one of the things that we see is that in constitutional carry states, the relative rate that women are carrying relative to men is relatively higher, and that may be part of it. But one of the things that's very interesting is just to see the breakdown of who's caring Blacks and Hispanics. Blacks make up about eleven percent of general election voters, but they make up over fifteen percent of those who are legally carrying. Hispanics, it's even more disproportionate. Hispanics make up also about eleven percent of general election voters, but they make up over eighteen percent of those who carry all or most of the time, so that's quite disproportionate.

35:30 There. Another group that was surprising was people who are very liberal. So if you break it down by people's political views, you know they're very liberal, liberal, moderate conservative, very conservative. The group that's carrying at the highest rate are those who are classified as very liberal. The ones who carry at the second highest rate are those who classify themselves as very concerservative. Overall, Democrats carry at a low rate compared to Republicans or independents, but it's interesting that there are groups within kind of their constituency like those who are very liberal or minorities who are carrying at high rates.

36:21 In these non constitutional states twenty one, and they have various different types of restrictions on gun ownership, right. Yeah. And also there's big differences in terms of the cost of getting a concealed carry permit. You have some place like Illinois, where the total cost of fees and training probably around four hundred and fifty dollars to go and get a permit. In parts of California, the cost is probably around one thousand dollars to do that, Whereas you have another state like Pennsylvania, which is also a right to carry, not a constitutional carry state, where it costs about twenty dollars is the total cost of getting a permit.

37:07 So you have very wide variations there, and that affects the rate that people go and get permits in those different places. You got to imagine, John, some of these states that you just mentioned, in areas where crime is up so high, how insecure these people must feel because they're totally relying on law enforcement. And it's these same blue states that want to get rid of law enforcement. It's just it doesn't make sense. Sure, Well, yeah, I mean, there are lots of things that affect crime. You know, it's not rocket sciences. You and I have talked about many times before. If you want to reduce crime, you have to make it riskier for criminals to go and commit crime. And you can do that with higher rest rates, which is going to be relayed to the police, higher conviction rates, longer prison sentences, with prosecutors will handle and judges. But you can also make it risky by allowing victims to be able to go and defend themselves. Now, in some places, you've had these soros district attorneys like Elvin Bragg and New York City and Kim Fox and Chicago, and up until recently similar people in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The voters there rejected and throughout the Democrat left wing.

38:36 Prosecute district attorneys that they had in those places. But you know, if you don't want to prosecute people, and if you don't want to put them in jail, you're going to have higher crime rates and so and also, as you correctly mentioned, those places also make it harder for people to defend themselves. Write in your recent Real Claire investigation report an interesting story about one Alessandra Cote, which is, you know, consistent with what you were talking in terms of you know, female participation, you know, women wanting to be you know, licensed to carry or to exercise their constitutional right to carry because you know, because of the danger and the vulnerability. Relate that story to our audience if you. Would, Yeah, sure, Well. Alexandra's a young single mother. She's been going to law school the last few years, and initially about two and a half years ago when she was out on a hiking trail with her young daughter and a dog. A man came up and yelling and screaming at her and threatened to kill her dog. She was very scared. Decided at that point that she wanted to be able to go and carry for protection. The thing is, she didn't have much money. She was poor student, single mom, couldn't really afford a nice place to live, was living in a relatively dangerous part of town. Fortunately, a few years ago, Utah passed constitutional carry, so she was no longer necessary for her to have to pay the eighty dollars for the permit that was there. But

44:40 she was able to go and get a hold of a gun and start carying. And there were times, because there were homeless people and others who were living in her neighborhood that would kind of accost her. And fortunately she never actually had to use the gun, but she could just let the person who is approaching her know that she was armed, and you know, the problem would dissipate. She would she was safe. Yeah, exactly. And this is just one of probably thousands, if not millions, of typical stories you know of women like Alessandra Code that you know was being threatened. And this is why, again, why our second Amendment is so critical and especially right now, John, as you know what we're dealing with. I mean, this is a cultural issue. You know, yes, that's great that the murder rate is down, but we're still dealing with illegal immigration, illegal crime rate being what it is. I mean, you hear stories. I mean there's a lot of anger out there. I mean, we just saw a situation as heartbreaking here last year where you know, at Attract Meet you get a young man who is murdered by someone by knife, not even a gun, but by a knife.

46:01 But again, what I'm pointing to is the anger and the. Crime hasn't disappeared still there. For sure, I would say that Trump deserves more than a little bit of credit for the big drop and murder and violent crime that we were talking about earlier that occurred last year and is continuing this year. You know, people don't appreciate what a high crime rate is being committed by illegal aliens, and it's probably even higher than we realize because a lot of the crimes that they're committed are being committed against other illegals that are in the country disproportionately. But what you see is that by deporting illegal alien criminals they're not committing crimes in the United States anymore. But it's more than that. Even the ones that you haven't caught, they don't want to get deported. How does legal alien who would normally be committing crime keep from being deported.

47:01 He knows if he gets caught, if he gets taken into a county courthouse someplace, there'll be ICE agents waiting for him there, even before he goes to trial, they'll take him into customer and deport the individual. And the way they keep from being deported is to keep off of police radar. And the way they keep off of police radar is not to commit many crimes right now, because the more criminal activity that they engage in, the more likely that the police will be there in order to pick them up. And so I think that's had a major impact. We saw some data at the end of last year. ICE had gone through and looked at the number of detainers for people who are incarcerated in New York State, for example, and fourteen percent of those who were incarcerated in New York State, we're a lead aliens. Now, it's possible that it's even much higher than that, because New York State did not cooperate at all with ICE and identifying those individuals that were there. Plus, in addition, some people never make it into the incarcerated population because when they're arrested and charged in a county courthouse, ICE can be there and pick them up at that point.

48:28 And so there are. Multiple reasons for realizing that this is an underestimate of the problem. But fourteen percent, it's a huge comcars rate. Population can compare it to the highest estimated number of illegals as a share of the New York population. Pew estimates that it's about four percent. So that's still that fourteen percent, still three and a half times their share of the population, and so that's very disproportionate there. You know, that's a much higher rate than the general population in terms of committing crimes. Well, John, this idea that you know, Trump was elected to get control of the border again. He did that on day one, to do something about the mass number of illegal immigrants that have come into our country under the previous administration. He's been working on that, and yet there's a small, very loud number of you know, of adversarial agents that are getting in the way of him being able to accomplish this, but you know, the media would want is to believe that somehow we can bifurcate and slice up, you know, this illegal immigration population and try and differentiate between illegals who were here. I mean, they're still illegal, they broke the law, but they've been here for a while, versus the ones that have been part of the new wave and may be associated with you know, Antifa or some cartel or you know, whatever

50:01 knows what. Right. Yeah, look, I mean ICE agents in twenty twenty five were facing assaults that were about eight percent higher than they were in twenty twenty four, the last year of the Biden administration. But we've done work looking at things like the air rates for ice picking people up last year as compared to previous administrations. The bi An administration didn't keep data on this. The Obama administration only kept this type of data for the last two years of the Obama administration. But the air rate in terms of accidentally picking up Americans was three times higher, over three times higher under Obama than it was last year under Trump.

50:51 I mean, they're very low rates in any case. Plus the rate that people died in ice custody, you know, of some old people or people of other health issues. Was also much higher under the Obama administration than it was under Trump. It was like ten times different. So you know, it's people, you know. And the thing is the US didn't actually deport They may have taken into custody some Americans again at a much lower rate, less than a third the rate that the Obama administration did. But the Obama administration actually accidentally deported Americans.

51:36 There's none of that that happened under Trump. So you know, it's. It's as interesting to see the way the media covers these I'm sure almost nobody would realize kind of the difference in the numbers there. But we've put all that together at our website at Crimeresearch dot org. Yeah, check this out. I mean, these are the facts, ladies and gentlemen, and something the media is not telling us about. Of course, they continue to be the defenders of democratic policies that I mean, at the end of the day, John, I keep asking the question, where have they helped us? I mean, right now, you've got a president that's trying to come up with a solution, and at every turn he's blocked and he's interfered with whether it's you know, the Democratic Party or activist judges, right.

52:31 No, I mean they made it very difficult. I mean, it's kind of amazing that they've accomplished what they've been able to accomplish. I mean, you have a lot of the cities, like in Minneapolis and other places where the police are refusing to do their jobs to go and protect the ICE agents that are there, made it much more difficult for them to do their jobs. Same with Los Angeles and other places, and so you know, it's they've been able to deport large numbers of criminals from those areas. About seventy percent last year of the illegals who were deported had criminal records. You know, one of the games that some of the media and places like Cato and other places play on this is they only count if you have a criminal record, if you've been convicted of certain violent times like murder, rape, robbery, a vade assault. In the United States, the problem is is that you know, you're also talking about people who were drug dealers, who were kidnappers, who were other types of things that they're not counting. But there are other major issues. One is, as far as I knew, you always had a criminal record if you had been convicted or arrested, And as I mentioned a couple times in this interview, what will happen is a legal alien will be arrested, will be a range in a local county courthouse,

54:02 and ice officers will pick them up directly at that point. And secondly, whether they had convictions in their home countries. For some reason, some of these advocacy groups like CATO or the media doesn't seem to care whether or not the person was convicted a murder or rape in their home country. To me, that's just as much of a concern as whether we've actually gone through the legal process and caught them engaging in you know, child rape or something like that in the United States. Exactly. Well, we got to leave it there for now, doctor John Lotte, the president of the Crime Prevention Research Center.

I'm great, Bill, It's nice to be with you. We'll always good to have you here. And here we are another day in America. A lot of Americans are siloed. They are stuck in their own thinking. They have been probably for the last decade, as the Left continues to divide this country. And this is all part and parcel of what is at the root of the tree here. If we look at it in terms of the tree, Scott, the fruit is not the healthy fruit of democracy.

So it tells me, like everything that has to do with people who understand, you know, when they plant trees and they see trees Jesus talked about trees and the fruit that comes on it, then we know that if the fruit is not representative of what we expected, then there's something wrong with the root system. And you know, the founders of our country, all of them, I mean, you can go back, of course, Washington, Adams, Madison, Lincoln, and we had a few moderns that stress the importance of the underlying importance of the virtue of society really was critical to the functioning not only of our constitutional government, but it really affects everything. It affects contract law, everything.

57:47 You know, when trust breaks down, everything begins to falter. And that's sort of where we are now, in spite of great leadership by Trump for in both foreign and domestic policy. But our problems are very very much rooted in the breakdown of society. And this is this has been happening for some time. And I think we can, you know, we can really attribute the acceleration of this to taking God out of our culture, which really started. Maybe it's hard to say exactly when it started, but we could say a marker is nineteen sixty two where we we we said, you know, prayer has no place in school anymore.

I just you know, and that's just you know, again, you can look at benchmarks in history and say, okay, we could see where this had impact, how it changed. The institutions got captured and it was all a very subtle but a a planned response because you see the thing is is that America Scott, when you really look at it, I don't know where our Constitution, Declaration of Independence, this great American idea where it's not been at war.

It has to do with good and evil. And the deal was there was a clear pronouncement by our founding fothers that we were going to pursue good.

I mean you have to just in terms of a sweeping view of history throughout all time from the very beginning, you know, people really had no rights that were not granted to them by the government, whatever kind of government was the Asian governments were all top heavy autocratic, aristocratic structures. We had, you know, we had a semblance of improvement of government structure in the West and England really from which we got our independence. Really gave us a very good foundation of law and so forth. But the reality is that, you know, are the health of a self governing system such as we have really depends upon the quality of the people. The integrity of the people, I don't mean to say quality and.

1:00:59 A surge in their ways the well. John Adams said quite clearly Scott, as you know, our constitution was designed for a people of morality, most. Religious people exactly. Yes, and he wasn't the only one. I mean, you know we've had We've had many, but but we know that our founding was our society was so much more religious at the time of the founding of America. I mean it was if you ask people, you know, what was their religion, they would all basically all of them would acknowledge Christianity. Even non churchgoers would say that they were Christian. So there was this respect for biblical truths. And of course the Bible is really the most amazing book in all of human history and sort of describing God's character and our relationship with God, and what a good society, how it's built, how it's structured, and it's not complicated.

1:02:06 Yeah, what it looks like. And you know that you would love one another right as you love yourself. You start the first starts with God. You love God, because that's that's the compass. If you're loving God, then your north star is set. And it's easier. Then because when you go to love everybody else, you're going to run into some pains and you go, oh God, and God helps you, helps you draw perspective where you can you know, broaden your heart to embrace somebody that's not like you. That's right, Yeah, Yeah, I mean the Golden Rule kind of says a lot in saying that we want to live our lives in such a way that we treat other people as we would want them to treat us.

1:02:55 Yeah. And it's it's as simple as that. It's it's a it's a system of simple virtue, if you will. Uh. And as we walked away from that, we have we're you know, we're reaping the consequences in modern times where we've kind of driven the moral and and and issues of virtue out of the public square, out of the culture. What we have replacing it but for tunism and and you know, power and right aggrandizing ourselves. Right. So this is what this is what happens when you empower a government that has disdain for those moral vies virtus right. And this is where we are right now, which is oh my god. It sounds like what happened during the Revolutionary War and the declaration read the Declaration of Independence. I mean, that's a clear pronouncement that the government was no longer interested in its constituents. Uh, and they weren't looking at them at a higher level as ima jodo as images of God.

1:04:04 Right mm hm yes, yeah, yeah. So here we are and uh, I mean I I do think that spiritual revival is happening in pockets here and there. We really need a you know, a real big spiritual revival like we had in the Great Awakening before the War of Independence. It's argued, you know, one could simply argue that without that Great Awakening the War of Independence would we we would not have achieved There's. No doubt, no doubt. But how much worse does it have to get? Scott Well I was saying all throughout the Biden years that we had to this was a bottoming out. And I do think we've probably bottomed out. We just haven't.

1:04:46 We haven't made the progress in terms of the cultural transformation because government can't do that. You know, I think we have. I think we have, you know, a very effective government. We have strong leadership, which we need. You need strong leadership, you know, in a world of adversaries, adversaries being a China being, Russia being you know, we at Venezuela and our hemisphere in Cuba and now we're dealing with Iran, right, you know, we need strong leadership. We have that, But meanwhile we're still stuck in American culture and politics with depravity.

And you said it quite clearly, it's about individual responsibility. Whatever it is, maybe something will break through on this two one hundred and fiftieth anniversary that will. Cause people to say, you know what, it's okay to. Live in an excellent country that is pursuing its its highest lie level of perfection. Not that we're claiming, but we're always you know, progressing toward a better America, you know, for next year and that, and that we're committed to that goal. And you know, I think that there's been some positive signs. Like you said, I think the the Supreme Court decision that said, you know, there's you know, this idea of systemic racism is gone. I'm still waiting for America to get out on the streets and celebrate that.

1:11:26 I think there was such a huge victory. Scot Well you know, it's. Interesting that you you raise that because I've just been thinking about that. You know, Rediscovering America does do a great job in tracing God's hand behind American history. And God's hand is clearly moving in a positive direction. And it was progress was being moral, progress was being made from the beat, from the founding of America. Remember, we were founded at a time when there was slavery in our country. We didn't ask the slavery to come here. It was brought by slave traders who it's uh, you know, it basically introduced black labor through a system of indentured servitude, not actual slavery, an indention servitude had a there was a legal status in Great Britain about that.

1:12:19 Well, time and again go back and you were free. I'm sorry, just I want to interject this again because sometimes what happens we go fast forward and talk about slavery, we don't talk about the. Roots of slavery. It was blacks capturing blacks, selling them to uh, to businesses, you know, and uh, and then they they came, they came here. So it wasn't like America went and you know, this is this has been the nature of history. You know, you go to war and if you lose, you get captured and you're enslaved. UH. And it didn't matter what color you are. It just so happened. In this particular case, a lot of those UH slaves were coming from Africa, and it was just black people conquer black people and selling them. And so then you know, it's like there's plenty of guilt to go all the way around, right.

1:13:07 It really is, there really is, but that. But but the reality is that we're coming up on July fourth, the celebration of the Declaration of Independence. UH. Jefferson cast a vision of equality in the Declaration of Independence very clearly that we were what was a distinguishing quality about America is that all people were equal. Okay, well, of course created created, they created equal that equal stature. Of course, that didn't exist with slave. With slavery, slaves were clearly unequal. But he vision and and we fought a war over it, the Civil War. And even even though we the Union forces won and slavery was eliminated legally, it it the slaves were free through the Civil War.

1:13:59 Slavery ended by the Civil War, but the residuals there was discrimination, segregation, there were black laws and so forth that existed right into the twentieth century. Well, God didn't give up on us, you know. And in fact, we could argue that Martin Luther King was raised up by God in the nineteen forties and fifties to really bring a full realization of the vision that was cast by the Declaration of Independence. And he did that. I mean, Martin Luther King went to jail twenty nine times in his Civil rights movement, which started in nineteen fifty five.

1:14:47 People forget how long the Civil rights movement, you know, how long it took, and the price that was paid by really the founder of this movement, Martin Luther King, And of course he was joined by many others, black and a lot of religious people, Jewish people, Christian people, because in our heart of hearts, Americans knew that equality was really God's vision for us. All people have equal value, and discrimination against black, segregation and so forth needed to end, and it was ended through the Civil Rights movement.

1:15:27 But yet there was a consciousness. But there was a consciousness though this needed to be cleared up absolutely. And I got to say that. Martin Luther King, if he was alive today, would be very much aggrieved by what the Southern Poverty Law Center has done Scott in terms of hijacking this movement and all these other race hustlers that are resisting and everything. But they're worse than race wrestlers. There are race wrestlers. But behind a lot of this are really hardcore Marxists who hate God, hate Erica, and they just they are revolutionary. They want to see an overturning of a godly society into one in which, in the name of socialist equality, the leaders really have all the power. Marxism is used as a power system, just like the Muslim religion is really a fake religion. I'll be very direct and honest about it. The Muslim religion is not a true religion.

1:16:28 It is the system of power. It is a political system to control society. If you don't think that Muslims are controlled people, go to any Muslim country right and see it with your own eyes. These are not free people. These people are in since they are controlled. America was born out of this notion is that God wanted to deliberate us from control. And that's what self government is all about. But self government depends upon the virtue of the people. Right. Well, as we've as we've walked away from God, we've run into all these problems in our country. Scott. You touch on something that's really important here.

1:17:09 I want people to catch this is that, in much the same way as the Apostles, when Jesus died and he rose from the grave, they experienced a sense of liberty that they hadn't you know, they thought maybe it was a dream. They didn't know quite, they didn't quite understand, they couldn't quite necessarily articulate it. But by the power of the Holy Spirit and the clarity of what it was like, their eyes were opened up and they realized that this is about being free. I mean, they were so liberated Scott that they were happy to go to their own crucifixion and murders. Right, yes, And the deal is today speaking of. Muslims, Muslims will you know, realize the dream in the middle of the night and they catch liberty, they catch freedom, and they're willing to walk away from their families, their culture and everything and even the threat of dirder, of martyrdom and death, and they convert to Christianity because only God can give you liberty.

1:18:14 That's right, that's right. And you know, the conversion of Muslims is of course facilitated by a common ancestor. His name was Abraham. These the Muslim faith is an Abrahamic religion, as is Judaism, as is Christianity. They all came from Abraham's family, right, went different directions. Of course, Christianity was built on the foundation of Judaism, and the Muslim religion was born well after Christianity was born, about six hundred years later. Exactly. The Muslim religion was actually founded by Mohammad. But you know, for anyone who thinks that that the Muslim religion was founded by a godly man, these read read the pigraphy of Mohammed.

1:19:04 Right and again. The other thing is we're back to the tree. Look at the tree and look at the fruit that is delivered there. Is it righteous fruit? Is it godly fruit? Is it fruit that loves one another? Is it fruit that unites in spite of what you're dealing with. I mean, this is the thing when you look at the history of America, the fruit of this great American idea that God planted not only for America but for the world. I believe Scott, yes, absolutely, you look at it and you go, you know it had to be divine providence. Oh, absolutely, absolutely. I mean the story of the founding of America is just extraordinary from the you know, from Columbus is crossing the Ocean. I mean, Columbus was an amazing Christian evangelist. The history you know, the critics will never concede that, but he was. He looked forward not only defining a trade route to the far East because he was a seafaring guy, so that was his his world mission, but his personal mission was to encounter people that had never heard the message of the Savior. Right he'd have the opportunity to bring them that great message.

A documentary has just been released at Fact is going to be coming to a theater here this week, just in time for Flag Day, which is officially on Sunday. And Andrew Shay and Melissa sha who produced, edited, directed, and they're still you know, they're still married. Throughout all this, right. Incredible, Yes, I mean. What a project to take this on. Andrew, first of all, let me start with you. You know this documentary. How did this idea come about? Well, Melissa and I we've been spending our summers up in southwest Michigan since twenty twelve, and we're neither one of us is from the Midwest, but we began spending time up there for a couple of reasons, mostly to get out of the Texas heat in the summertime.

1:38:44 Our kids were young at the time, and. We had just hired a young woman to take care of our kids during the days because we were busy editing another film. And she said, you should come see this parade over in Three Oaks, where I live, and we thought, okay, it might be fun. So we went over there in mid June and we saw the prey. It was the Flag Day parade and it was just a startling, beautiful event. And Sandra, the young woman who was working for us as taking care of our kids, she appeared at the top of the float as Miss three Oaks. Oh wow. So from that moment on. We were just really smitten with the parade, and we began going back every year and making deeper connections.

1:39:24 In the community over the years, and we. Eventually came to think that, especially in an election year in twenty twenty four, that this could be a really powerful, inspiring documentary to portray this event, not just the event, but all the little dramas and moments of humor that take place before the parade and during the parade. But we really. Wanted to showcase the sense of unity in this one particular community in Michigan. Melissa, as you were putting this together, you know, just as Andrew was saying, there's so much there's so many stories, I should say, right, I mean, it's a tapestry, you know that. I mean to me and hearing this, this is the way it strike strikes me. How did it strike you?

1:40:12 You know? We had always there was like the units that really. We loved seeing and the parade from. That very first time. The tractors were just I mean there must be fifty or sixty of them, I mean, and it was just we loved it. We were you know, the floats, there's lots of you know, three oaks is only one of community floats, and so there was just something about the pageantry and the pride of people coming out and you know, shining up their tractors for this one day, and we just you know, loved it. And the other unit was the Michigan City Soul Steppers, and they just brought so much energy to the parade and the crowd loves them. I mean, they really are just you know, their enthusiasm and commitment is contagious. So we kind of followed our instincts to the units and people that we just felt most connected to.

1:41:09 I got to imagine that, you're the level of patriotism must intensify. How can it not, right Andrew. Yeah, I mean you mean for us or for I. Mean for everybody. I mean, well, I mean it is. A patriotic community, and you know, I mean we have a young man, Levi Stoss who says that in the film. But I don't think it's. Different from from a lot of other Heartland communities, you know, who take a lot of pride in the flag is a symbol of our country, but in our in our veterans. To me, that's what this was more than anything. It was about really celebrating our veterans. So we made a point of featuring a number of veterans as our principal subjects.

1:41:50 The American Legion and Three Oaks became a key focal point for us in the making of the movie, and they were big. Supporters of ours. And you know, we had Albert Senior there, the oldest vet in town, and his son, Albert Junior, who were very eloquent about what Three Oaks has meant to them and what the flag means to them. So it just really became a And again, I don't think Three Oaks is unique. I just think it really wears its pride in this country on its sleeve, maybe more than some other communities. You know, Melissa, I have a tendency to agree with Andrew a bit here is that you know, it's kind of like, if you build it, they'll come. You know that there's probably more of a universal patriotism than we realize.

The last decade, you know, America's soul and heart has been challenged, and you know, so anytime we can have events like this that honors you know, are founding, that honors the rich tradition and things that really that have made America exceptional. And yes, no doubt about it. The country is exceptional. But it wasn't like all of a sudden it was just handed to us, was it. No, I agree with you, and it is that I think commitment to the generations in Three Oaks who have served and who have continued to build this community that really speaks loudly. I mean, there is I asked the parade coordinator just yesterday to tell me what patriotism means to her, because I feel like we're projecting in a sense, like we see it quite clearly, but you know, and I think it's something that is kind of elusive for people to put into words. But yet it's a feeling of belonging and pride and respect for how this country was built. And I feel that there's elements in this film that some people may feel like, what is this unit doing here? But these people have shown up year after year and have participated and are part of this event and part of the community now. And the more I think about it, it's more about showing up every

1:44:08 day and year after year. Yeah, and Andrew, what this documentary shows is that we are inclusive. We've been told that we're not, but we are very much so, and I love here. Recently and I've been saying, you know, when the Supreme Court's recent decision that put kind of the death nail into systemic racism, you know, it was things that I think most of America was already there, but we needed somebody to pronounce, you know, like the Emancipation Proclamation is that in fact, we are free at last, and that this idea of racism is it's run its course. And I think that your documentary in some way kind of adds a dimension that I think that's important right now, and it's timely that this documentary is coming out right now, you know, as we head into too our two one hundred and fiftieth anniversary, what do you say, Yeah, you know.

1:45:07 I absolutely in terms of the timing of the film, we knew that, you know that we knew twenty twenty four was going to be an election year and that Michigan is a battleground state, and then you know, it's divided politically, but we want to show people coming together across those divides cultural political, racial divides, and we hope that the film expresses that theme, you know, to us when Albert Brayboyd Junior early in the film says the flag isn't democratic, it's not republican. It belongs to all of us, and we need to take the narrative back to us. I think for me and Melissa, that expresses the theme of the story more than anything, this idea of rising above partisanship to celebrate the bonds that keep us together.

1:45:52 Right you see, Melissa, I think that part of the challenge we have here in America today is that the organization, the organist lineup, has flipped a little bit. Politics is supposed to be downstream culture, right, so the culture itself dictates politics. What's happened is there's been a flip that has occurred where politics is upstream culture. And this is why we have this animist that has infected the culture. The people need to understand, just like Andrew just said, you know, our flag is not republican, it's not democrat. The million plus people that paid the ultimate price and died for freedom in our country, you know, they're not divided by party. These are American citizens that surrendered their lives so that we could enjoy freedom today.

1:46:40 Right. Yeah, absolutely, I mean I think that really is the message of the film and what we hope that people will take away from it. We had a good friend who saw an early screening who came away. I mean, she was in tears after the screening and she said, I'm so angry at myself for not hanging my flag the last you know, three four years. And so I think that you know, letting reminding everyone that everyone has a seat at the table, right and you know, to be included. The more you show up, the more you're included. Yeah, I'm old enough to you know, remember the protests against the Vietnam War. I grew up in the sixties and early seventies and and you know.

1:47:25 And that was a very divided time also in a lot of ways. And I think a lot of veterans came back from that that conflict and we're not treated well. And I think that today we can all accept and embrace the idea that we should respect and review our veterans, whether we believe necessarily in a particular conflict or whether we support a particular political party. I think we can all get behind our veterans. Yeah, because like Melissa said, we showed up. Melissa, you know, my brothers and I were Vietnam era vets and I love and respect that people say, you know, welcome home, because we weren't necessarily welcome, you know.

1:48:08 After being remember that very well to Andrew's point. But you know, the deal is is that in spite of all the conflict, it's not always been hunky dory in our country. You know, guess what, we have something that unites us and what better than the flag Melissa right now, it. Is wonderful to see and truly, I think from that first experience of the parade, we've been struck by how people rally around this event. And you know, you know, to be honest. We weren't even aware of really the holiday of Flag Day. So this was a nice introduction to it.
