Always good to talk to you. And get caught up. And of course, you know, the focus is Iran. I mean a lot of people are getting nervous here. I don't know what they expected if they thought everything was going to be done. You know. I keep saying, we're part of this microwave generation that stands in front of a microwave and yell's hurry up. I mean, like we're gonna deal with something that's taken forty over forty five years to be involved when we're cleaning up in a couple of couple of hours.

Well, I glanced at some of the headlines this morning, and one of them, you know, they're they're one and all extremely ominous, and one of them was going on about how the head line said something like and I forget which one which is the news media was, but it was something like, you know, conditions worsened as American death toll rises. Okay, well, what's happened is that the American death toll has risen from six to seven. Right, not to minimize the deaths of seven American servicemen, I'd be less to do that. But if you compare that to you know, the mortality rates of pretty much any other recent American war, you know, so far, it's it's not been that. Big a deal. I mean, we.

1:31 The main issue with the war, I suspect is in the long term is going to be the cost involved. It does seem to be being prosecuted very differently from the way other wars of this sort were done. In the end, excuse me, shut off my cell phone. In the end, we have sorry about that, you know. And the in the end, we're probably gonna have to send some ground troops in to finish the job. It's very clear that the Iranian regime has absolutely no interest in disbanding. They're going to continue shooting Iranian citizens and doing their thing. And you know, I mean it's a very complicated issue in the sense that you know, the war was probably as claimed by a lot of Trump's detractors was embarked upon unconstitutionally, But then so is every other war since World War Two, and quite a number of wars even before World War Two.

2:26 So that's you know, a bit problematic. And at the thing that thinks so funny, Steve, is that the ones they're claiming it's unconstant, they're shouting for the timbers is unconstitutional, said nothing or even said they supported what Barack Obama did, for example. So like you said, I mean, fair's fair here, Let's let's be objective about this. And you know, clearly it seems that the president does have the constitutional standing to do what he's doing right now in the short term. Right, well, I'm not sure about that given the scale of it. I mean, you know, I think, honest people can you know, disagree on small operations like what happened in Venezuela recently, and you know, so even people with you know, staunch constitutionalists do disagree.

It's pretty clear that it's developed into a minimum, a major theater war, and really it was embarked upon, you know, as a major thing, and so you know, calling it otherwise is disingenuous. At some level, I would think, you know, it would require congressional authorization, not to say, an actual declaration of war. Now, in American history, we fought many, many wars and minor wars and military actions and all this type of thing, and of those, the only actual declared war since it depends have been the War of eighteen twelve, the Mexican American War, the Spanish American War, and World Wars one and two. World War two involved multiple declarations of war, not just Germany and Japan, but also Hungary, Romania, Italy and so forth. So Bulgaria, I think we declared war. And then that was the last time that that cluster of declarations of war, that that officially drew us into World War two is the last time we've declared war.

I was, you know, in the morning, when I hang breakfast for to go to work, I always watch news clips to get myself all read and angry, and I was watching a screed from from Mark Levin from his Sunday show, in which he was in a sense arguing that because we no longer declare war, we shouldn't declare war, and then saying, you know, this was yesterday, is you know, we haven't done that since World War Two, and all these other presidents have gone into war with this, which is certainly true, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the first you know, and second Gulf Wars, not to mention many other you know involvements, and you know, invasions of Haiti and invasion of Panamon, all on and on have all been carried out without declaration of war or even without you know, congressional authorization. So so I mean that's the first thing that you know, we have, and it is our obligation, regardless of whether or not the cause is righteous. And we can talk about that too, and I think we should, but you know, there should be a declaration of war or some measure of congressional you know, consultation and authorization. And it does appear that, you know, that Trump, like his many of his predecessors, essentially went all cowboy, and you.

5:24 Know, and so here we are and part of the challenge now that we're in it. I mean, it certainly doesn't make sense to say, oh, okay, let's because it was embarked upon under dubious pretexts. Let's just unwind the whole thing and go back to the status quo ante. But you know, obviously that's non acceptable outcome. Either, right, And you know, a part of the challenge you have here is with Trump talking to Congress. I mean, this is the stuff that's so goofy right now. He talks to Congress and they can't find a microphone fast enough to share what has been shared with them about any kind of strategy or what what's going on here, you know, And you know Trump can't trust Congress to keep their mouth quiet.

Well, I mean, I mean, part of the problem in this, as with the Venezuela issue, and of course the next thing is going to be Cuba, as everyone realizes, is that we're dealing with the fallout metaphorical so far, thank goodness, but we're dealing with the fallout of you know, decades of really feckless and misguided policy. So consider that when Thomas, I mean Thomas Jefferson was the flaky liberal guy of his age, and I say that affection I love Thomas Jefferson in many ways, but compared to most of the founders, he was kind of the equivalent of the of the touchy feely, you know, liberal mindset, like we're at all and yet when a bunch of Muslim nut jobs started kidnapping and holding for hostage Americans, he didn't hesitate, Okay, right, and and and so and so you roll that forward to nineteen seventy nine, you know, and of course now he did it with congressional authorization. But that speaks, I think, eloquently to the mindset of Americans in those days that we were. You know that even the most anti war presidents, you know, the most idealistic presidents, would say, oh, you know, this is this is clearly active war. Well, you know, Iran committed clear acts of war against America when they seized our embassy and held our you know, a large number of embassy personnel hostage under unbelievable duress for four hundred and forty four days, and then followed that up with various acts of terrorism.

7:34 And that whole time, you know, I mean, obviously. Jimmy Carter did not have the backbone to do anything about it, right, And so so that's been has been the thing. And this they have they run itally. As to how many Americans they've killed. I don't know, but it's been it's been many, directly or indirectly. I mean, you know, the Marine barracks in Lebanon. I mean, when Ronald Reagan became president, he decided he started out to say, well, we're going to fix things in the Middle East that we've kind of broken, and very quickly. That that wasn't going to happen. When we lost over two hundred marines in the bombing of the barracks in Beirut. His attitude was, you know what, I'm more concerned with dealing with the Soviet Union and the Cold War were done, and he just pulled out the Middle East. And so now the Middle East is front and center and people are saying, well, what is Iran done to us? Well, you know, over the last nearly fifty years, you know, numerous instances of cassis belli to be sure by any traditional calculus, however, because we've had you know, and Trump is right when he says, you know, presidents have just been kicking this proverbial can down the road and down the road and down the road and hoping the next generation will deal with it.

8:40 I do agree with those who maintain that you just can't allow a regime like Iran to get nuclear weapons, right. I remember, back in the nineteen eighties, I took a course in political science at the university where I was studying, and one of the main topics was what they called back then the Islam bomb. You know, there were specifically referencing Iran and perhaps your rock and maybe Sautyr area, but Ken, you know, is it safe? And of course now one is Muslim nation. Uh you know, I think all eyes have been on the Middle East and and concerned particularly about Iran, you know, going nuclear And could you imagine, Steve, I mean, they go into the negotiation with Weiscoff and Jared Kushner and make the announcement quite boldly that they have enough nuclear elements to develop eleven nuclear bombs. Oh yeah, okay, where do we go from that statement? Right? Right? And yeah, you know, and so I mean I think people who who say, well, we should mind our own business, there's a there's tremendous merit to that. And you know, ninety nine percent of the time I say amen. But it is it is an ineluctable fact of the modern world that we no longer have to worry about an invasion by some you know, naval force in old wooden boats, you know, crossing the ocean. So for that that, you know, we live in a world where it is actually possible.

14:56 Several regimes hostile to us now possess the ability to immolate American cities at the push of a button, exactly, and Iran wants to join their number bad enough that North Korea is now very close to that because they're they're they're they're crazy enough, although probably not as not as crazy as the theocrats in Tehran. But this is just an unfortunate reality. And you know, if the mindset of the more fanatical moiety of the Muslim world is that they need to exterminate or convert the rest of us, right, Okay, that's just That's just how it is. And this is a lesson that the West has learned again and again and again. And you know, and you add to that that that already potent brew the specific bizarre acusiastic theology of the site radicals in Iran to the effect that they see that it's very much they're very much end timers, and they believe that, you know, that they need to start ultimately the war to destroy the Great Satan. That's us, lest we forget, and little Satan is Israel just but we're the great Satan, okay. And they see themselves as as having the key role in the destruction of the Great Satan, and that that event will will will we be brought about with the you know, the tenth Madi showing up.

And so people ask, well, why did they behave so irrationally When the war started, they start lobbing missiles and drones willy nilly at all kinds of countries, including countries like Azerbaijhn that don't have American bases, that aren't involved in this at all, not to mention, you know, Gulf states like Qatar that are kind of in their corner, that are you know, that are supportive, and they attack it well because they're trying to draw as many countries as they can into this war because of this weird Islamic millenarian view that they have, and we if we, if we willfully ignore that bill, we're ignoring a large part of this whole issue. I mean, now we're starting to see acts of terrorism and attempted terrorism on US.

17:03 Yep, exactly. Well and oh yeah, and that's right. Meanwhile, let's go ahead and make us even more vulnerable, and we'll shut down the government, take away money from the people whose job is to protect us here in the homeland. Yeah. Well, I mean, I think the enemies of America are at losses to what to do right now because they like Iran and less. We forget when the Iranian Revolution of nineteen seventy nine was actually a coalition of Iranian communist radical leftists with Islamists. They forged common cause, as they did frankly when the Soviet Union went in and made sure that that Central Asia, which. Is all Muslim, was Sovietized. They went out and said, you know, told the Kazakhs and the Azeris and all the rest of them, you know, this is this is basically you know, you know you talk about your jihad, Well that's what this is. Really, this is a form of jihad, so we have common cause and that's what they did. So this Green Red alliance is nothing new. And you know, so the left in the West secretly loves the Iranian regime, just like they not so secretly love the communist Chinese because they're ideological fellow travelers. And that's the reason that they scream and yell every time an errant Israeli bomb, you know, kills some civilians in Gaza, but they don't utter a peep when the Iranian government goes out and slaughters tens of thousands of young people in the space of a couple of days. When they you know, they massacre women regularly, young women in particular. It's just a beastial regime, absolutely

18:35 beast you I mean, that's not propaganda, that's true, okay, But the Western left in general, their criticisms of Iran have always been very muted. Now, of course, you know, the war its suddenly they've all discovered the constitution, you know, and they're saying, well, this is unkind and you know, they're doing anything they can to get Trump to back down because they don't want to see the regime and it's in Iran fall. They really don't. Well, there's no question. Well you've got, like you said, and we've been pointing this out. I mean, forget about the parties, you know, forget about Democrats and Republicans. It's not that it's deeper than that. It's the pro American the people who believe in the great American idea that you and I have lived with that we're going to celebrate two hundred and fifty years and happy to do so.

19:19 And you get the anti Americans, the ones, like you say, these lefties that have been here that live amongst us, have taken advantage of all the good things that we've generated. And I say we, the corporate we including themselves and generated and they just they it just is amazing to me that they want the demise of you say, the great Satan of America and this American dream that we have. It's shocking to me. But here they lived among they live amongst us, and that's what that's what we have to deal with. Well and probably never you know, get rid of them altogether. I mean, this is not an all thing. They've been around. They've been around twentieth century. We're already carrying out out acts of terrorism and American soil. Like you know, the Wall Street bombing back in nineteen twenty I think it was, and this and many other examples of that kind of thing.

20:10 There was I think a massacre of attack on a police station here right here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, not far from where I live, back in that same time period. People forget that there there was a that was the original radical left wave of terrorism in the United States. And that was one hundred and twenty years ago. So you know, so it's not new. I mean, the the the banners, the pretext changed, but you have the but you have the to kind of understand the illogic of what we would call the left or the woke left or whatever. The enemies of America writ large basically two things. Number one, they hate the United States, and number two, they greatly admire any system that displays a certain aptitude for regimented oppression because they want to regiment things. They don't just want to go out and oppress people at random.

20:59 They want it to be regiment, mended and organized because they believe in order right. So in their time, they greatly admired the Nazis until it became politically incorrect to do so, but all these same people loved the Nazis and the fascists in the nineteen twenties and nineteen thirties, and then they switched, you know, then it became the Communists, because after all, you know, look at look at you know, Stalin's kind of a bad guy, but he's really really charming, and look at look at this wonderful big government that he's created, how efficient it is, and what an improvement it constitutes over the Czars and now. And they, of course, certainly they feel that way about about China. And I've lived in China, as we've talked about before, and yes, they do actually make the trains run on time. They do run on time. It's true. They're good at stuff like that, you know. So they talk about they wax effusive about that. And similarly they feel the same about Iran. They oh, well, you know, and the narrative is still, you know, the Shah was this evil individual because he hated Communism and he loved Israel and so he had to go.

21:54 You know, That's that's the part of that story that no one ever talks about, you know. So so clearly, these people, even though they dress funny and they love to abuse women. There's still us. That's what the left thinks. You know, there are people because you know, they have this massive secret police surveillance earth. They're socialists, They redistribute the wealth, They're into public works projects and building grandiose monuments themselves, all the things that the left admires. So they will regarded as a terrible tragedy if this regime falls and is replaced by, oh, I don't know, an actual free republic, and especially if a republic that's you know, sympathetic to so called the so called right and Israel and its actually friends to Israel, imagine that.

22:39 Oh you can't have that. Yeah, you can't have peace and prosperity without order. If it isn't anything that they've created, then they don't believe in it, right. Right, Yeah, But I mean, I mean, but all that said, I mean that's the best case scenario. I don't know how this is going to turn out. A lot of people, of course, are already saying, well, it's going to just be another Middle Eastern quiet, and it may you know, I think one thing is certain. There's going to be a price tag. And I think you wanted to talk a little bit about the economic dimension of this. So I would say this, you know, I mean as far as the short term, all wars cause price shocks. Yes, most modern wars cause oil price. We're now billion dollars a day, right. Yeah, I mean we're seeing that. But but I don't really care so much about that. That's the same.

23:22 You know, if you have a hurricane, it costes price shocks too. You know, any type of black swan event is going to cause you know, short terms price shocks. Those are far less significant. Those get taken care of, you know, smoothed out by market forces. But the long term issue is is the cost and the inevitable borrowing and printing that will take place, you know, to paper over the costs of this war. So that's you know, that's going to be something that we're going to have to reckon with. You know, the p the First Golf War costs a lot of money and led to a recession, you know, the occupation of Iraq, the Second Gulf War, what ever you want to call it, the r or similar deal, and this one is already costing a lot of money. Wars are Wars are not the health of the economy. They may be the health of the state.

24:09 But they're certainly not the health of the economy. Thing is this is on top of Gaza and Russia and Ukraine. Steve Well, sure, and and you know, and so so I mean people need to understand that it is not the case. Now. Now what Trump is trying to put this with, Well, yeah, we end up with a free Iran, We'll have more there'll be more money for development, you know, opportunities for trade, obviously oil access. To the oil. And that may be true too, that maybe an offsetting factor. It is a very complex situation, and I guess for me, I mean the two negatives are a the unconstitutionality of it. You know, we we have to you know, as you may gather. I'm certainly simp I've wept no tears when I learned the death of Comedy and some of these other people. These are monstrous individuals and the world is well rid of them, and it will be well rid of their regime if if we succeed, if we in Israel succeed in getting rid of them, and it will redound to the benefit of the Iranian people. I think, if that, if that's how it plays out, all right.

25:09 But but we can't ignore the constitutional issues. It is our responsibility to say, well, okay, you know, at some point we're going to have to get back to a constitute, more constitutional, you know, version of things, and that certainly includes the war powers. You know, under the constitution, it is not true that Congress has all the war powers. It has a lot of them. Okay, if you look at Article one, Section ay has a whole list of powers, not just declaring war, but also obviously raising revenue for war and defining, you know, the rules of engage all this stuff. Article one, section eight has a lot. But the president is also has a certain measure of authority the executive due to his role as commander in chief, and it's been a debate from the very founding of the Republic how far that role actually extends.

25:55 Yeah, you brought up something that just poked me in the eye, and that is that, you know, Congress is the one to define the rules of engagement. Yeah, Lord, have mercy, No wonder, Yeah, no wonder. Yeah, I just say, anyway, we got to leave it there. Look forward to continuing the conversation with you. Mister Steve Bonta. Right, and not to part your words. But everything you said is true and I agree with it. But I also try to tell people when they say the world's upside down, I say, well, actually it is upside down from what God intended it to be, but it's exactly the way God said it would be in the last days. Now, when I used the term last days, I am not setting dates. I'm not an alarmist. I'm just saying that I know for a fact. I have proven it in books, I've done worldwide media presentations, live television, radio, podcasting describing it. I've not had anyone anyone able to historically and biblically prove that I'm wrong. And it's not me.

You know, God has put us in a time such as this in a sense like watchmen, and what does he say if the watchman doesn't warn the people, the blood is on their hands. Right right, right, So absolutely we have a great responsibility. And so the good and bad of this is this, this is the way I present it, This is the way I see it. The good is we are living in the most prophetic time since the first coming of Jesus Christ. Now consider that we get to experience something similar to what the first century experienced at the coming of Jesus Christ. Okay, but the next big boom of prophecy is the second Coming, and we're right at the edges of it for many biblical reasons and historical proofs.

32:23 But the bottom line is, I tell people what a privilege it is that God would trust us in these days. Trust you trust us gives us voices. We've get cameras and microphones, we can speak to the world. We now we've got social media, and everybody can speak to the world that wants to. So it's an exciting time to be alive. All kinds of new technology on the horizon. Some of it is going to be used for abject evil, but some of that same technology will be used to do beautiful, wonderful, miraculous things in our lives, our health, etc. So you gotta it's it's it's uh, let me see it's first.

First Thessalonians chapter five, where Paul is talking about these days and he says, but look, you've got to be able to identify the good and live in that, but to walk away from the evil. This day that's coming will not catch you like a thief in the night. It will for people who are not paying attention. So anyway, that's the good that we've got all these promises, assurances. The negative part is the world is changing quickly, shifting quickly because a eye quantum computing that used to be nuclear war raised that a I war race to control the world.

Also we understand that at the same time, there are a lot of people coming to the Lord, and I praise God for that, But there are also entire denominations that have been flushed down the toilet. I mean, they don't know what a marriage is, they don't know what a gender is, they don't know what a child is or a man or a woman. They don't know that Israel in the land is God signed to the world. He says it fifty times in the Old Testament that that will happen. And then it talks about Persia being one of the great aligners of coming against it. That's Iran. We're watching this. We've got an armada ready to attack as you and I are talking off the coast of Iran and in that whole area filled with nukes and everything else, and it's getting ready to be on I don't know how it's gonna pan out. But the problem, but the deal is, the Lord said all of these things would happen. He said, do not fear. Greater is he who's in us than he who is in the world. The Lord has us, He's got us. But anyway, that's where we are. And so you and I were talking even before we came on air. You know, when the world is at its worst, and this is a quote somebody else said, and you and I couldn't remember, so we'll give credit to this unknown person right now. But when the world is at its best, that's when the excuse me, at the worst, that's when the church needs to be at its best, and there's a lot of melding in of true biblical

The problem is the majority, according to the Barnipoles and the pew Poles and all these that measure these things, the majority of churches all over the world don't have a biblical worldview and are not preaching and teaching the things you and I are talking about today, which means a whole lot of people just don't know, except for those that watch your show and a few others like it. So there we are, the good, the bad, and the ugly. That's where we're living right now. Well right now. And it's interesting the timing. And you know, I have observed God's incredible timing, you know. And and this year is the year of the vov and one of the characteristics of the year is it calls for connection with God and discernment. Okay, so as you connect with God, what's your spidey senses, They're going to increase, right, because you're going to start seeing this to realize the difference between order and disorder. Order comes from God. Disorder is ungodly.

And but where where, where's where did you get at that that this is the year of that? And so but those that are Orthodox and understand appreciate that God doesn't. You know, there's a liturgy there, there is a rhyme and reason for every date and time.

The explosion of technology, unprecedented explosion which Daniel talks about, Jesus talks about twice in Matthew twenty four, Revelation talks about it, Revelation thirteen talks about it. All of these things that were said in the Bible thousands of years ago. That made no sense. Back then, only technology could make that sense.

We've got to think what's in the best interests of this country and which is in the best interest of our citizens and what Donald Trump basically, I mean, if you play this out, he has reshuffled the deck in terms of the world order, right.

Right, exactly, That's what he said, John, What why why why didn't the Democrats act on this? I mean, this has been an emerging threat for decades. This doesn't this didn't happen just yesterday. I guess the best you could say with Obama is that and Biden is that they thought if they gave the Iranians lots of things they could kind of buy their friendship, and my own guess is that the Iranians just kind of viewed them as suckers there that didn't change their ultimate goals in Iran, and it allowed all the money that was given to them, allowed them to go and prop up their proxies in the Middle East, cause all sorts of problems that were there and didn't change their end goal, just made it easier for them to get to it. The agreement that Obama had with Iran, all it did was kind of give them a ten year window in order to try to accomplish what they wanted before they could break out. And so, uh, you know, at best, you could just say it just delayed it.

Well, John, you monitors, it's.

Obviously you had you know, Obama and Biden and Clinton go and use military force without the Democrats rushing to the floor to say that they hadn't gotten proper congressional approval. Let's say exactly and I was cahem.

John is at the book and he's the author of the book Gun Control Miss He's the president and founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center. John, I want to talk about, you know something of note that a lot of people are talking about, and that is, you know, the big headline, the rate of transgender violence much worse than the media admits, right. Yeah, No, it's really a statistical malpractice on the part of much of the media. You know, they'll go and they'll say, look, transgenders may make up ten percent or whatever of active shooting attacks, and that's just a small percentage, so that doesn't really matter. But the problem is they don't do kind of the most basic things there, such as going and accounting for their share of the population.

1:11:48 A group makes up ten percent of the shootings, but only you know, one percent or less of the population that's there. You say, look, it's pretty clear that their disproportion involved. So you know, that's just one thing. The other thing is kind of what you compare it to some of the media outlets. I mean, this is based in these errors are true across everything from the Associated Press to the New York Times to you know, PolitiFact and others. You know, you what group do you compare it to? So some of these news media outlets want to use the measure of mass shootings from the Gun Violence Archive, which is a gun control group. But they one of the big things that they have is about eighty five percent of their cases our gang fights over drug turf. Almost all the rest are robberies. Now, our gang fights over drug turf important, yeah, but kind of the very different cases from when somebody goes into a place with the notion of simply trying to go and kill as many innocent people as possible with the goal of getting media attention. You know, if you look at the FBI definition of active shooting cases, that they try

1:13:18 to get a handle on that. So though, they define active shootings as a gun being fired in public, not part of some other type of crime like a gang fight, over drug tour, for a robbery, anything from one person being shot at and missed all the way up to a mass public shooting, and the media itself generally differentiates these things. You know, you may have shootings in Chicago between gangs. That doesn't get you know, every weekend, you get that, you don't get national news stories on that. Instead, the media focuses on those cases where you know, they're trying to go and kill as many innocent people as possible in a movie theater or a mall or a grocery store or someplace like that. And so you know, the media treats those very differently. But somehow, when they're looking at these trans cases, they lump them together with these other cases. And look, if you compare it to the FBI data on active shootings in twenty twenty four, which is the last year that the FBI data is out for you have the share of active shooting attacks by transgenders is about twelve times their share of the population, at least maybe more. If you look at mass public shootings from twenty eighteen through twenty twenty five, so mass for the FBI is basically four more people killed. And

1:14:51 if you take so active shooting definition but just limited to four more people killed, so mass public shootings, you find that it's about over six times their share of the population. And those differences are very statistically significant. And we go through that the statistical tests on our website at crimeresearch dot org, so and people can double check the stuff. Yeah, well, why how is the media able to get away with this? John? I mean it's almost like they're creating their own standard, which really defies you know, statistical you know, credence and standardization, doesn't it.

1:15:33 You know, these are basic errors that are there. It's like they go out. Of their way. It seemed purposefual, purposeful, I mean basic airs. Okay, I made a mistake, but I mean this is by design, it seems, John. Yeah, Look, is it hard to explain you. I mean, is it hard do? I try not to get into people's minds to know why they're making the mistakes that they are. I try to avoid that. What I will say is that the reason where we have shows such as yours is to go and say, look, people, you know, here are some really simple things. I mean, you don't even need to be a statistical expert to understand that. You know, you've got to control for a group share of the population. You know, and we see this in many areas, not just this. See you'll see discussions about, you know, white men or whatever are disproportionately going and engaging in mass public shootings. Well, you know, you may have fifty six percent of mass public shootings involved whites, but if non Middle Eastern whites make up fifty or sixty five percent of the population, they're actually slightly under you know, represented. That's there, and so you know, you go and you look. You see transgenders are very overrepresented.

1:16:54 People from Middle Eastern backgrounds are greatly overrepresented. But the only way you know that is by kind of comparing it to their share of the overall population for those groups. Okay, but you see something like these trans numbers and you say ten twelve times their population, and you go, we got trouble here in River City. I mean, is somebody asking that question or are they just arguing saying, oh, well, it's just you know, it's such a small percentage, right. Well, I mean that's exactly the reason why you care about getting this accurate, why you care about doing the proper type of analysis on this stuff, because exactly the concern that, look, you don't know what the problem is. Okay, if you don't go and look at it, and we see this in many areas. You and I have talked many times about how these mass public shooters go and target gun free zones, explicitly go and target places like that. Well, you know, if you don't even ask the question, how do we know how to properly stop these attacks? And so you know, we got to go and try to figure these things out and accurately report them. And so if you have a group of people, even if it's you know, you know, not the majority of attacks, you still learn something. And to me, it's not super shocking

1:18:26 that trans individuals are disproportionately represented in either active shootings or mass public shootings, mainly because when you're talking about mass public shootings. One common characteristic across these individuals is that they're suicidal, that they feel somehow put upon in some way. And yet when you go and look at trans individuals, they are suicidal at very high rates compared to the general population, and so and they also feel put upon. So it's not it's not surprising to me that they're overrepresented. Well, John, we got about a minute and a half left.

1:19:06 I did want to talk about the California voter ID initiative that's cleared the signature threshold, setting up November. You say it's setting up in November Showdown with Newsome. Huh right, Well, I mean California just recently passed a law making it a crime, I guess for you know, individual jurisdictions in California to go and ask for voter IDs from people, you know. I don't think people realize what an outlier the United States is in terms of just basic voter integrity type issues. If you look at Europe, for example, all of the forty seven countries in Europe, forty six and a half of them require government issued photo IDs to be able to go and vote. Canada, Mexico required government issued photo IDs to be able to go and vote. All of South America requires government issued photo IDs to be able to vote. You know, across Africa, voter IDs are required for people to be able to go and vote.

1:20:08 You know. Somehow we have states in the United States that just think, you know, you need vote, you need IDs for very everything else in your life. But somehow blacks and Hispanics in the United States are going to be discriminated against. Are Hispanics in Mexico discriminated against because they require government issued photo IDs? You know, in Mexico after the nineteen ninety one voter reform there required government issued photo IDs as well as a thumbprint, banned absentee ballots completely at that time, made it difficult for people to get the IDs because you had to go in person to get the ID, and you had to go in person to pick it up, and in some places in Mexico you're time traveling one hundred miles to be able to go and do that. They actually had a huge increase in voter turnout in the next presidential election. It went up by something like over twenty percentage points.

1:21:14 Wow. And it's because people then became more convinced that their votes mattered. No, I think that's the bottom line of it all. Is that too much content? But they had three speakers and a guy tell his life story, and each of us speakers spoke two or three times. So these guys got loaded up with the Bible, practical application, theology, the worldview that we live for eternity. You know that there's a much bigger experience that God has brought us into.

We also had seven inches of snow Friday Bill, so we took a big long walk in the snow. Oh good, fine, huh. So, so tell me what was your number one takeaway the most important thing you got?

1:27:06 You got from this event. The most important takeaway was this one quote that Wayne Weissman received from his mentor. And I'm going to give it to you in a minute, but I could see that it was indelibly marked on this Bible teacher, Wayne Weissman's life, because we were doing a panel discussion Wayne, who is very biblically knowledgeable his whole lifetime teaching Ken Boa the same way as a Bible study teacher, author, speaker, and myself, who was kind of like the put the Christian stuff into practice with the you know, metaphors and stuff like I used from football. And we were answering questions and Ken and I had answered a few, and then we pointed to Wayne and said, why don't you answer this? And he looked at the audience and the men, and he said, I'm not good at this. I'm not good at just answering questions off the cuff. And yet you knew he was brilliant at explaining you know, God and theology and Christianity and the Bible, and he'd been doing it and so we're all like surprised that this guy who's very articulate and clear and intelligent and can explain the Bible very well, and he says, I'm not good at this, just off the cuff question answering. And it struck me how humble and honest and secure he was to say that in front of us.

1:28:37 All right, yeah, exactly right, and humility. Is actually more appealing than some sort of arrogant confidence. Here's the quote that his mentor gave him. This was my big takeaway. He said, you can't do it. God never said you can. God can, and he always said he would. You can't do it. God never said you can. God can and he always said he would. And it basically just spoke to the truth that we were made to live in relationship with God, with him being the source of a exactly the direction we go, and be the power to go that way, right right. That's why Jesus even prayed, not my will, but thy will be done, and then the credit will go to God and we won't get off track and think, oh, I did this pretty well.

I'm really yeah, you may have stopped cussing, but your thoughts in your heart are still kind of negative towards people. So that's what I took away. You can't do it. God never said you can. God can't, and he always said he would and he will. So for me, it was just a total life of dependence. It's not an unconfident life. It's actually a God confident life instead of confident life, right, God confidence versus you confidence. And it's interesting should bring that up because last week I was studying on Colossians three. It came up. You know, the spirit had led me to this, and it's consistent with the things that God's been showing me lately. And we talked a little bit about this last week in terms of letting go of ourselves and reaching out for the higher things. Claus Is three one says, if you then have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth. Like what you're saying, we have those temporal things that we want to gravitate to because we're surrounded and influenced by the world, you know, all the influencers and things that look good and inviting, but those are temporal. That's all going to rust and go away. And Paul saying, hey, he's come to the realization himself, having gone through the process and now encouraging others saying, hey, that stuff is garbage, man, And just like you're saying, is that we need to

1:31:10 let go of those things because those things are what hold us down on this mortal plane and want to be reaching for the heavenly things like you're saying, Jeff, and you can't do it. You know, it's like that, you know that symbol of the of the monkey, how they catch monkeys. You know, he gets a nut in the jar and he's got his foot and he will not let go of that nut, and he's dragging that jar around with him. Well, and we're somewhat metaphorically the same deal. We hang on to that nut that's holding us down, dragging the jar around, and tells somebody said, why are you dragging that jar around? Well, I got I'm gonna get it, you know, no coming out, and so it's dragging you and holding you back, right. That's funny. My wife and I used to tell that story to children high schoolers whenever we would speak. We've told it to adults as well. But I think that there really literally was a tribe of Indians that caught monkeys live by hollowing out a coconut or something. You know, you mentioned a jar, some sort of container that hare a small hole, and they put nuts or candy or something in it.

Nuts, and then there wastached to a string or a rope, and the monkeys would come out of the trees and put their unclenched fist into the coconut clench and make a fist with the nuts. And then their fist was so big it couldn't come out of the hole. And then they would just reel that monkey in with the string. But the whole, you know, sense of they would be the monkey would be free if they would just let go right and make their fists the thin hand. Again, that's us. We grab on to the things of earth which are temporary, and Jesus made it so clear these things fade away, you know, the turns brown, the flowers wilt, it's a passing experience.

And the question for each person today is where am I sticking my hand into this world's coconut and grabbing on to its little prizes, reputation, popularity, how people think of me on Facebook or Instagram? Families, Right, yes that's. True we've been kind of harping on this lately because the stats around it were so alarming to. Us we know premarital counseling coaching, Works, yeah that's. Clear it lowers the annual rate of divorce by about thirty one, percent increase relationship satisfaction up to thirty. Percent and most people are going to a church or religious organization for their primoral.

Organization but what was startling to me is that when there's a step, couple you could call it someone who's heading into a blended, family about seventy five percent of those couples don't get any premarital support at. All and that really struck. Me AND i can see why maybe some people, thinking you, know first you get the rose colored, glasses you're so thankful for the second chance at a godly, marriage whatever it might. Be but also just this idea of, Well i've been married, before we know what we're doing. Well, yeah but you haven't stepped right into insta family, before so there's a lot of different layers with becoming a step. Family you really need to get some support around.

Yes, right and absolutely questions you didn't think about because it might take the third party to, say well have you considered? This or what happens when you don't know how to divide the household chores because now you've both been single parents for a few, years you're used to both doing. Everything or what if there is you, know a spouse that's passed, away and how are you paying attention to the children's grief and loss even though you're happy about a new, relationship or things like maybe there's ex spouses in the. Picture have you thought about how that can impact the marital. Relationship it only could take one call from someone's ex spouse to change your schedule or your, finances and that can wreck your whole. Day have you thought about those? Things AND i think too many couples are not getting the support on the front end to think, about how are we going to navigate all those layers once we're really in blended family.

1:43:47 Life, well and to, me you know that one of the toughest things, was you, know, authority you, know could the kids respond to authority from the step, Parent and that's that's a bit of a challenge as you, ALWAYS i, mean just in normal, conditions you, know the kids are always trying to divide mom and dad, Anyway but when you're in a step, situation it's a little bit easier to tip the cows in the prairie a little, bit. You know it. Is and you're, Right even in the best of, circumstances if parents aren't on the same page and they're not, unified the kids will play divide and. Conquer but when one of those parents is, also, hey that's not my biological, parent you have to do even more. Work and we love talking with couples about this piece on the front end because here the stats are also very. Clear in an intact first, marriage a lot of the things that can lead to trouble and trauma and divorce are things like finances or intimacy or the in. Laws with step, families the number one marital stressor is, parenting and so you have to talk about these, things and we actually, recommend at least at, first to just parent down biological.

Kids the other thing we do is we make a, distinction though between consequences behavioral parenting and house, rules so that a step parent can step jetly in kind of dip their toe in the pool of, parenting so to, speak by enforcing house. Rules for, instance it was fine for me to, say even to my step, kids, hey just a, reminder this is a shoes off. House pop your shoes off when you come. In that's. Okay but if one of them was back talking or needed a, CONSEQUENCE i would have my Husband scott hand that out at least early, on SO i could build up some authority in their.

Parent this is the thing That i've, observed is that the biological parent has an innate connection and understanding with that child because that child is of, them right because even with the the biological connection and difference between in normal, conditions the mother and the. FATHER i, mean BECAUSE i know with us sometimes you, know my wife would say why does he do? That AND i go AND i could understand it because it was easy because it was a me and there were times when he would do that angle why does he and she'd look at me, like why are you asking that? Question because that was of her right and she. Could and now you bring in a step situation where you know you don't have a biological innate connection and you have to kind of unders i, mean really extend a lot of grace and pray a lot.

1:47:24 A lot of, prayer a lot of. Grace and you're, right you're essentially learning these new family. Members you don't know them the way the biological parent. Does and so that's why it's so. Interesting Because i'm a parent coach AND i encourage parents be their, parent don't try to be their. Friend but in a step, family it is a little. Reversed first you have to develop the relationship before you earn that authority in their life and the position in their world to speak more into their. Life so that that's a little bit different and you have to be sensitive to. That and that's why we're big fans of getting the premarital, support whether it's your church or finding a counselor get some help talk about these things in. Advance it's gonna bless your relationship down. The road well without. Doubt AND i like what you said in terms of like house, rules you, know because you have a layered, situation, right some of these things like house, rules those are you, know those set the, boundaries and it's they're not as, offensive you, know or, THREATENING i guess there is a better. Word and but you, know in order to get to that next, level like you, said to get to, trust you build that with the exterior right in setting those houses with simple, things you, know and like you, said that are just authority markers because if the child can respond and, understand maybe some might still insist on wearing their, shoes but after a, while you, know they, understand, okay everybody else is taking their shoes, off and you respect it and they fall in. Line.

Time we're not all of a sudden going to be The Brady bunch, here, Right you're. Not it's not an instant. Thing and that's ACTUALLY i don't even like the idea or analogy behind a blended. Family you don't just throw all the family members in a blender and it's like whoo while off. Family it really takes, time but you're, right a child might be more receptive to me just reminding them it's their night to unload the dishwasher than handing out a. Consequence and so you have to step into those things over time. Exactly, now in terms of step, down how long does that?

Calendar so the research shows it's about five to seven years for a step family to really gel and everyone to really know their role and respect both adults. And all of. That so it really takes. Time so we often tell the couples we work, with don't stress, out play the long. Game but you should know going in that in a blended, family the honeymoon comes. Later the beginning is. Laying the hard work of that. Foundation, yeah just be thankful it's not forty years out in the, desert right? Amen? Yeah, yeah, right, no but that's that's good to know that you know you're in. THIS i, mean this is this a five to seven year, project and that seems to be. Reasonable you know that that that would take some time because you, know building trust IS i, mean this is still trust and and you know you think about with a blended, FAMILY i, mean how much of the kids have to? Trust, okay mom or dad made a decision, here and they're bringing this stranger into the, house and now you know it's gonna be my mom or my dad or how DO i relate to? Them?

Time they didn't ask for any of, this and so they need some time to get on the bus and that that is really a. Process and that's why playing the long game. Harmonious AND i think blended families are actually a beautiful picture of The. Gospel all blended families are born out of.
